St Bartholomew’s to host webcast of
Trinity Institute’s 39th National Theological
Conference
Wednesday, January 21 – Friday, January 23, 2009
This is a very exciting opportunity for
us ….lay and clergy alike. Mac and I have both been to an actual
Trinity Conference in the past, and we have both participated in
the real time webcasts that are held at varying sites around the
country. This is a very economical way (no airfares, no hotel
room), to attend a high quality and stimulating conference.
The mission of Trinity Institute is to equip clergy and
laypersons for imaginative and catalytic leadership. Founded in
1967, the conference presents emerging theological perspectives
and engages participants from all faith traditions via keynote
addresses and theological reflection groups. The conferences are
well attended because of the high profile speakers the organizers
are able to attract.
The theme this year is Radical Abundance: a theology of
sustainability. In our efforts to be care for the earth
that God has given us, we often fail at partnering with the
marginalized and powerless, and thus adversely affect them.
Building sustainable communities goes hand-in-hand with thoughtful
building of infrastructures and physical spaces. Is there a
theological basis for living abundantly while striving for justice
and sustainability?
Through keynote speeches and panel discussions by leading
theologians and grassroots activists, this 3 day conference will
consider radical ideas about abundance, sustainability, and well
being. Interactive reflection groups throughout will enable you to
share your own experiences and solutions with fellow attendees.
Registration forms soon to available; the fee is $65, which
includes lunch and snacks.
If you want more information at this point, and /or you can
help with the logistics and hospitality, please contact
Beverley@stbartsatlant.org. You can also go to
trinitywallstreet.org/institute to learn more.

COFFEE HOUR
Many of you have been asking about our NEW and IMPROVED Coffee
Hour! This was a project taken on by parishioner Janet Clements.
Janet has been making all of the food which we have been enjoying
for a number of weeks. Now, she has invited all of the various
groups and ministries of the church to participate.
Each group within the church has been invited to
host (or co-host) one (1) coffee hour during the year. The members
of the groups will be in the Parish Hall on that Sunday following
the 10:30 a.m. service to greet members and visitors who gather
there. They will provide information regarding their ministry
group, answer questions, and be the welcoming face of St.
Bartholomew’s to those who may or may not be familiar with our
Parish. They will provide any food which they would like to bring
to go with the coffee that Kenny keeps brewing for us every week.
Please contact Janet at damnitjanet@joimail.com to
request a specific Sunday morning to host. We are so excited about
this wonderful “new” ministry! |
A Ministry of Care
and Healing
Under the umbrella of Pastoral Care ministries, a new ministry
has been created to serve service men and women and their
families. This is an issue beyond the political that affects all
of us, whether in or out of the military. Men and women in the
military and their families experience unusual stresses and so
need our help and support as caring Christians, regardless of
our political point of view.
PRAY FOR WORLD PEACE
A group will meet safter
the 10:30 a.m. service every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month to
pray for world peace. We will meet in the Shalom Chapel
after anointing and prayers for healing are completed, i.e. 12:15
p.m. or a few minutes later. The service will be 20 to 30
minutes long. So, have a cup of coffee and a cookie after
the 10:30 a.m. service and then come join us.
Contacts are
Anne Mee and
Lee Thompson. You
