We are the ones who set the
Table, who get things ready for the Holy Eucharist, counting out
wafers, polishing silver, making sure linens are creased just so.
It’s a lot of busyness. But much more than that, it is an act
of hospitality, doing our part to create a sacred space that
welcomes everyone, whoever you are, wherever you are on your
journey. . . . And it is an act of our devotion to Christ and the
Sacrament of his body and blood.
The Altar Guild is made up of
four teams,
each responsible for all church services during a
designated week. These might include, for instance, a
funeral or a wedding in addition the scheduled celebrations of the
Eucharist. The Altar Guild also keeps communion kits
prepared for Lay Eucharistic Visitors and clergy to take to people
in the hospital or otherwise unable to come to church.
St.
Bartholomew’s Altar Guild is also involved in the National Altar
Guild Association and its regional affiliate, Province IV Altar
Guild.
We’re
experimenting with a blog,
From the Sacristy, and invite you to check it out and perhaps
add your comments to articles.
If you
would like more information on the Altar Guild, please contact
John York, sacristan.
For our
members’ convenience, the current
Coordinator Rota is available
here.
