The
role of the acolyte is one of service by assisting to make the liturgy a
gift of love to God.
Acolytes
carry the cross and torches in processions, assist the priest at the
altar, present the offering and provide other designated tasks from time
to time. Basic training is
provided to those interested in joining our team. Scheduling of service is very flexible and we would love to have
you join us, as we are always looking for new members.
Adult
- St. Bartholomew’s currently has fifteen adult acolytes who primarily
serve at the 8:00 a.m. Eucharist, however, also serve at 10:30 a.m. on
high holy days and special occasions. The adult team appreciates having an active role in the liturgy. We all have come to develop a new sense of community through
coordinated effort and individual support. Adults wishing
to join the Adult Acolyte Ministry should contact
Brian Gluckman.
Youth
- Participating
as leaders of worship through the youth acolyte program is an opportunity
for the children and youth of St. Bartholomew’s. Those trained and serving as acolytes discover the rhythm and flow
of the liturgy and come to understand why we do certain things in certain
ways. Children and youth ages
8 to 18 are encouraged to serve as youth acolytes. The commitment of serving as a youth acolyte involves attending a
basic acolyte training session; being scheduled for at least one 10:30 am
Sunday Holy Eucharist every four weeks; being available to serve on the
High Feasts of Easter Vigil, Easter, Pentecost, St. Bartholomew’s Day,
Christmas Eve and some lesser feast days plus serving at weddings and
funerals as needed. All youth ages 8
- 18 are invited to join the youth acolyte ministry. The only
requirements are to serve reverently, and with responsibility and
consistency. To find out more, contact
Sarah Ward.
