Mission
Statement
WHEREAS, the Episcopal Church has a tradition of establishing Guilds to
carry-out specific ministries that require more than temporary commitments
and,
WHEREAS, we believe we are, as human beings,
called to "live together as siblings, at peace with one another and with
God, and in right relationship with all of the rest of creation"(1) and,
WHEREAS, we believe we bring harm to the
earth through overproduction, unchecked consumption, and reluctance to
employ alternatives, thus creating disparity of energy and wealth among
global communities, and a dangerous environment for ourselves and future
generations; and,
WHEREAS, we believe the cost of inaction is
too great,
WE, THE GREEN GUILD OF ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S
EPISCOPAL CHURCH, ATLANTA, GA, affirm our willingness and commitment to
rebuilding a right relationship with God’s earth by:
- Embracing servant-hood of God's creation in
our everyday actions and choices for self-care;
- Fostering awareness, appreciation, and
respect for creation through green leadership of our parish;
- Providing a model for green leadership for
other congregations and joyfully spreading the good news of God's gracious
generosity.
We recognize and affirm that our ministry
will require God’s help and the support of this parish. We embrace this
commitment knowing that ours is not to over-harvest, but to partake of and
care for the gift of God’s creation, while gratefully nurturing this gift
for the enjoyment and sustenance of future generations.

GREENWASHERS
NEEDED
The Green Guild and Parish Life Committee have accomplished their
goal of no longer using
Styrofoam and plastic for Sunday breakfasts by Easter. "Greenwashers"
have learned to use the dishwasher to make this a reality and serve
on a rotating basis as dishwashers for Sunday breakfasts. Additional
volunteers are still being recruited to serve as “Greenwashers”. The goal is to have 26 teams of 2 people so
that no one will have to wash dishes more than two Sundays a year. If you can help or have any questions, contact
Maggie Kulyk,
Daphna Gregg, or
Mary Kimberly. |
FAIR TRADE COFFEE SALES
The Missions Committee will
begin sales of Bishop's Blend certified fair trade, organic, shade grown
coffee (Bishop’s Blend Regular, Decaf, Cinnamon Spice and dark Kaldi’s
Roast, ground or whole bean) today and continuing the first Sunday of each
month between services and after the 10:30 service in the Parish Hall.
Proceeds from the ongoing sale of Bishop's Blend will be targeted for
support of ERD and Haiti Missions.

Feed Binnie Green!
Celebrate Earth Day with recycled paper! A large paper-recycling bin has
been placed near the trash dumpster at the back of St. Bart’s property.
Pratt Industries has donated the bin, and will pick up the paper each
week. The paper will be weighed and St. Bart’s will receive money based on
the number of tons of paper we recycle. The recycled paper will be made
into cardboard boxes. Making new paper from old paper uses 30% to 55% less
energy than making paper from trees and reduces related air pollution by
95%. And the trees saved pull carbon dioxide out of the air and produce
oxygen for us to breathe.
Binnie is hungry. Very, very hungry. It wants your clean paper,
flattened cardboard boxes (either corrugated or smooth cardboard),
newspapers, old phone books, junk mail (but take out the sheets of
adhesive labels first), school papers, shredded paper, paper bags, tissue
paper: if you can tear it, we can take it.
Your Mother Earth thanks you |

FARMER'S FRESH FOOD CSA
Would you like to enjoy fresh, local, organic produce every week,
handpicked by the farmer for you? Would you like to support local, organic
farmers who care for their soil and water as carefully as they care for
their produce?
Would you like to reduce your carbon
footprint by eating locally? Then sign up for the Farmer's Fresh Food CSA.
CSA stands for Community-Supported
Agriculture and when you join, you pay the farmer up front for a certain
amount of produce. Each week, the farmer packs a bag of selections at the
peak of ripeness for you. The fall session runs from Sept. 11 to Dec. 11
and will include: apples, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, heirloom and field
tomatoes, lettuce, okra, cucumbers, eggplants, squash, garlic, pole beans,
greens, free range eggs, honey, peppers, mushrooms, sweet corn, fresh
herbs and more! Regular shares are $364 and premium shares are $518.
Regular bags usually have 5-7 items and can
feed 2-3 people for 2-3 meals.
Premium bags have 7-9 items and contain
higher priced gourmet items such as mushrooms, duck eggs, and micro
greens. A Premium bag can feed a family of
4-5 for 2-3 meals. These numbers are
estimates. Some people find they have too much to use in a week. Others
will cook everything in a day or two. Your personal dietary habits will
determine how much you use. You'll get an email on Monday, telling you
what to expect in your bag as well as recipes in the bag itself.
Pickup locations are available at Whole Foods
Briarcliff, Buckhead, Midtown, Toco Hills, Vinings, Carrollton, and
Douglasville.
St. Bart's members who enjoyed the summer
session and are signing up for fall include the Kimberly/MacDonalds, the
Kulyk/Farleys, and the Partingtons. Feel free to ask any of us about the
delicious meals we've been enjoying. Then go to
www.farmersfreshfood.com,
click on Fall 07 and sign up now!
