Concerts

St. Bartholomew's is known around the city for its excellent acoustics, and now, for its fine organ. We are pleased to offer several concerts this year. Below is a listing of concerts arranged by category. Some events are ticketed, and others are free. Links to additional information about performers and tickets will be added as it becomes available. Please contact organist and choirmaster Brad Hughley (404.634.3336 x228) for more information. Free concerts are offered as community outreach to parishioners and guests alike.

New Trinity Baroque

We are pleased to host one of the area's finest early music ensembles, New Trinity Baroque, as artists-in-residence.  New Trinity Baroque concerts are now available on-line.

All concerts are preceded by a free pre-concert talk.  These interesting talks will feature notable musicologists, as well as NTB musicians and audience members who will bring you interesting stories about composers, their music and - the concerts that will follow.

Parishioners receive discounted tickets: $15 for adults; $5 for students. To reserve tickets and for more information, contact Brad Hughley at 404-634-3336 x228 or via Email at brad@stbartsatlanta.org.

More information on the season may be found at http://www.newtrinitybaroque.org/concerts/index.html.

Needed: Concert Volunteers

The Music Department is seeking two volunteers to assist with the New Trinity Baroque concerts.  The duties of these volunteers will include: ticket sales, distribution of concert programs, orderly seating of concert attendees and returning the worship space to its normal state after the concert (picking up discarded programs, etc.). Note that for this concert the chairs in the nave will not be moved to face the organ, so this task will not be very time consuming. The time commitment will be roughly 2½-3 hours, from 45 minutes before the concert to roughly 30 minutes after, and volunteers receive free admission to the concert. Please contact Elizabeth Fitch if you are interested in volunteering for this or future concerts at St. Bartholomew’s.

"Second Sundays at Seven" Recital Series

This series of concerts precedes Compline on the second Sunday of the month from September - May. The recitals are 45 minutes long, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are not required; however, there is a freewill offering to help continue the series. While primarily designed as an organ recital series, several of this year's concerts feature different combinations of instruments. Whether you're exiting the 6:00 p.m. Eucharist or coming to Compline, these concerts are a wonderful opportunity to hear experienced musicians in a different context. Upcoming concerts for the 2008 -2009 Season:

Sept. 14 TBA
Oct. 12 John Richardson, Organ
Nov. 9 Lee Orr, Organ and Jason Pellet, trumpet
Dec. 14 Melanie Burt, Soprano
Jan. 11 Scott Dettra, Organ
Feb. 8 Federico Andreoni, Organ

Atlanta Schola Cantorum
Atlanta Schola Cantorum, founded in 1974 and thus the area's oldest independent chorus, presents two or three sets of concerts each year in the Atlanta area. The core of the group's repertory is the polyphonic sacred music of the Renaissance, especially Josquin, Palestrina, Victoria, Tallis, and Byrd. The group has offered the first local performances of Hildegard von Bingen (in the mid-1970s) and early Spanish music from the Las Huelgas Codex and Llibre Vermell, and has reached forward to Monteverdi, Sweelinck, Hassler, Aichinger, and Bach. Like many early music choruses, Schola feels an affinity with such contemporary composers as Pärt, Tavener, and Lauridsen.
