We’ve Called a New Rector!

Habemus Rector!

A message from St. Bartholomew’s Senior Warden, Juliana Lancaster:

Dear People of St. Bartholomew’s,

angela-shepherd photoIt is with great joy and excitement and anticipation that I announce that the Rev. Dr. Angela F. Shepherd has accepted a call to serve as the seventh Rector of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. She comes to us from the Diocese of Maryland, where she has served for the past seven years as Canon for Mission. Prior to that, she was the Rector of St. Philip’s, Annapolis for eleven years.

The Nominating Committee and Vestry were drawn to the match between her passions and ours, to her deep understanding of theology and spirituality, and to her capacity for linking action to all of the above. We are, collectively, sure that she is the right person to lead us forward into an exciting new phase of our life and ministry.

After finishing her time with the Diocese of Maryland, relocating, and catching her breath, the Rev. Shepherd will begin her ministry with us on March 1st and will celebrate her first Eucharist with us on March 11th. In the intervening weeks, let us all prepare a warm St. Bart’s welcome for our new Rector!

Grace and peace,

Juliana Lancaster
Senior Warden

About the Rev. Dr. Angela F. Shepherd:

The Rev. Dr. Angela F. Shepherd has served the Diocese of Maryland as canon for mission for over seven years, a position that has included working with others in areas of dismantling racism, environmental initiatives, public policy, and a high school summer enrichment program.

In addition, itinerate preaching, leading workshops, retreats, making presentations, and other duties as assigned have filled her portfolio. Prior to that, fourteen years of leading congregations complete her journey to this point. She now looks forward to reengaging what is tenderly known as “cradle to grave” ministry.
